Cigars are more than smoke and fire.

In today’s world of entrepreneurship, people tend to start companies with grand visions. They want to change the world and revolutionize life. The Black Leaf Society started slightly more serendipitously, but in a way more familiar to brothers and sisters of the leaf: Over a cigar.

Spencer and Jah met at a mutual friend’s wedding. With both believing they were the only real cigar smoker in the bunch, they brought cigars for everyone. After the ceremony ended, the guys went off to have a celebratory smoke, and that’s where Jah and Spencer struck up a conversation. Towards the end of the evening, they both shared how they’d love to get into the cigar industry and agreed to keep in contact. This struck up a year’s worth of conversations on what they could do and how they could move within the cigar industry.

In the beginning, they wanted to open a cigar lounge, but as their friendship progressed, their ambitions expanded. They started discussing what they could do that no one else was doing and how they could have a more significant impact. That’s how the Black Leaf Society was born. By forgoing the brick-and-mortar space, they could be more agile and dynamic. For all the football fans think Air Raid offense, not ground and pound.

The Vision for The Black Leaf Society was as simple as it was expansive. Let’s create a society for cigar smokers who could pair having a great smoke with impacting their community. By not only focusing on cigars and entertainment, they could provide an experience that was both enjoyable and edifying.
